Great thoughts, Chuck.

Most all mobile device browsers pass something that signifies the actual browser type and/or device. Unfortunately, it's not always foolproof. Aside from browser detection, sites should also use a mobile URL to ensure the highest number of users can view the site properly on a mobile device.

The United States has always been behind Japan by several years in technology adaptation. In Japan, more is bought through a mobile phone than through a desktop. So, it makes sense that will happen here, in a few years.

I admit that I've only purchased one item via mobile so far. But, on multiple occasions I have found something I wanted via mobile, bookmarked it, and then ordered it when I got home. For now, that's probably what the majority of people will do. The problem is, there's no analytics to credit the mobile site for the sale. But, for me, it's definitely worth the investment to have a mobile version of a store, even if it's just to get you going and beat your competition.

What do you suggest as a means of browser detection for a Miva Merchant store so it knows to redirect to a mobile version?
